Customize Section Weights

Control how much each section contributes to the overall test score.

Updated 2026/02/23

By default, all sections in a test are weighted equally, meaning each section contributes the same proportion to the total score. The Customize Section Weights feature allows you to override this default and assign different weights to sections based on their importance.

Purpose

Not all sections of a test are equally significant. Some may measure critical competencies, while others are designed for supplementary evaluation. Customizing section weights allows you to:

  • Emphasize certain areas by giving them higher weight.
    • Reduce the impact of less critical sections.
      • Align test scoring with your learning objectives or evaluation priorities.

        How It Works

Enable the feature by selecting Active under Customize Section Weights in Test Settings.

Assign weights to each section. Weights are typically entered as percentages or points.

The system calculates the overall test score by applying these weights proportionally to each section’s results.

        Example:

        • Vocabulary section weight: 40%
          • Grammar section weight: 60%

If a test-taker scores 80 in Vocabulary and 70 in Grammar, their final score will reflect the weighted distribution.

            Best Practices

✅Use higher weights for sections that directly measure your core objectives (e.g., technical skills in a certification exam).
✅Keep weights balanced when all sections are equally important.
✅Communicate weighting rules to test-takers if transparency is required.
