How to create a question
Generating questions for your tests
The Question Bank in TestInvite allows users to create and manage a variety of question types. The question creation process consists of several key steps, ensuring flexibility and customization. Users can create questions from scratch or streamline the process using predefined settings.
When creating a question, a user can:
- Select type – Choose from objective or open-ended question types.
- Configure content – Define the question text, possible answers, and any additional details.
- Customize settings – Adjust scoring, dimensions, feedback, and formatting options.
- Enhance with media – Attach images, audio, video, or files as needed.
- Save and organize – Store questions in folders, apply tags, and set up rule-based organization.
Choosing question type
Users can select the question type in two different ways:
1. By clicking the "+New Question" button:
- The pop-up that appears allows users to choose from Objective Questions (Multiple Choice, Matching) or Open-Ended Questions (e.g., Short Text, Numeric, File Upload, etc.).
- Selecting a question type opens the respective question creation panel.
2. Within the question creation panel:
- Users can change the question type using the dropdown menu in the top-left section of the question creation panel.
- This allows switching between different question formats without restarting the creation process.
Selecting the appropriate question type ensures the assessment aligns with the intended evaluation method.
Formatting the question text
The question text editor provides a rich text input field where users can type, format, and enhance their questions. This editor includes various formatting tools to structure the question effectively.
Where to find it?
The question text box appears at the top of the question creation panel after selecting a question type. Enter your directly into the editor and press Ctrl + Enter to continue.
How does it work?
The editor supports:
- Text formatting: Bold, Italic, Underline, Strikethrough
- Links: Insert hyperlinks
- Media attachments: Add images, audio, video, and file attachments
- Formulas: Users can enter mathematical formulas by clicking the function button (ƒx) in the toolbar.
- Math input: Reachable by clicking the “Σ” symbol, this panel allows users to input complex math equations in the questions using a virtual keyboard or LaTeX formatting.
- Lists: Create ordered and unordered lists
- Text alignment: Left, center, right, and justified text
- Headings: H1 to H6 formatting for structuring questions
- Font customization: Change font style and size
- Special characters: Insert symbols and special characters
TestInvite's flexible formatting system allows users to create well-structured and visually clear questions, improving test-taker experience and comprehension.
Additional features in question creation
After defining the question text, users can further enhance their questions using the following features:
- Adding image – Insert images to provide visual context or support for the question.
- Adding audio – Attach an audio file for listening-based assessments.
- Adding video – Embed videos for interactive questions.
- Adding file – Upload documents or supplementary materials.
- Editing layout – Adjust how the question and answer choices appear.
- Adding feedback – Provide instant feedback based on responses.
- Adding hint – Offer hints toward the correct answer.
- Reporting – Enable analytics for tracking question performance.
- Composite questions – Create multi-part or grouped questions.
- Importing questions – Bulk upload questions into the system.
- Field Settings – Open-ended questions such as text-based can have their own field settings regarding input, evaluation and automation.
Scoring and evaluation
- Scoring – Define point values for correct responses.
- Points & multipliers – Adjust scoring weights and multipliers.
- Dimensions – Categorize questions based on assessment dimensions.
- Effects – Apply conditional actions based on responses.

Yes! Composites allow users to group multiple related questions under shared content (e.g., reading passages, images, or videos), ensuring they appear together in assessments. This way, you can maintain dependencies between related questions, making sure they are presented together even when tests use randomized selection.
You can set point values, adjust multipliers, and define scoring conditions in the Point Edit Box. Additionally, Dimensions can be assigned to categorize questions.
Yes! You can enhance questions by attaching:
