Creating a photo capture question
Go to the Question bank and click + New Question.
Select Photo Capture as the question type.
Enter your question prompt in the rich text editor
How it works
When a Photo Capture question is presented, the test-taker sees the question text and a live interface to take a photo or screen snapshot.
Turn the Previewswitch on to view the question from the test-taker's eye. The test-taker is prompted to open their webcam or other capture tool.
A dropdown allows the test-taker to select the input source. Available input sources include webcam and screen recorder.
Internal or USB webcams
Source selection dropdown menu.
The test-taker can click Open Webcam or Take Photo after selecting the input.
Once captured, the photo is previewed.
The test-taker can choose to take another photo before proceeding.
Screen Recorder
The option "Screen Recorder" is ideal for taking a snapshot of the current screen.
Select Screen Recorder from the dropdown menu.
Once the test-taker chooses the screen or window they want to share, it will be reflected inside the answer area.
Select the desired screen or window.
Clicking "Take Photo" will capture the selected screen.
The captured screen is now added as an answer.
Settings
Media: The checkbox “Take photo with the device’s webcam” is selected by default as it is required for this question type.
Evaluation:
Rubric: Define how the captured content will be scored using rubrics.
Note for Evaluator: As photo capture questions are manually evaluated you may want to add private notes for the evaluator.
Photo capture requires access to the webcam or screen capture capabilities of the test-taker's device. Make sure the browser has camera permissions enabled, and the device has at least one functional camera or screen capture source.
Previewing the question
Turn the Preview switch on to view the question from the test-taker's eye.
The test-taker is prompted to open their webcam or other capture tool.
Why use photo capture?
Particularly useful for identity verification, visual confirmation of physical tasks, or capturing on-screen activity, the photo capture question type can be used to:
• Confirm the test-taker’s identity (e.g., by asking them to hold an ID card in front of the webcam), • Request evidence of hand-written work, • Have the test-taker share a screenshot of their desktop or an application for screen validation, such as checking browser setup, app usage, or showing their screen before or during the exam.
