Presets allow you to create and manage predefined Dimensions and Effects, making it easier to categorize questions and responses consistently. Any newly created Dimensions and Effects will be stored within the Preset under which they were created.
Once saved, the new Preset will appear in the list.
Dimensions classify a question under a specific topic. A question can have multiple dimensions or be structured into subcategories.
Effects refer to an additional scoring mechanism that can categorize answers under specific dimensions. These can be linked to multiple-choice or matching-type responses, allowing test-takers to be grouped based on their answers, measuring their tendencies and traits without affecting the score.
Most of the time, a multiple-choice question is designed to measure a single aspect of the test-taker's performance, like their ability in math, grammar etc. However, this is not always the intended result of a test. Sometimes a multiple-choice question does not measure a single aspect of the test-taker but instead measures their inclination towards a certain aspect. Consider the question below:
Clearly, it's not possible to assign this question to a single dimension as each answer option represents a different trait or attitude.
Effects allow each answer option of a multiple-choice question to be mapped to a different aspect.
Let's say we want to assess test-takers on four different aspects: Conscientiousness, Spontaneity, Outgoingness and Methodicalness. We can add a side effect to each answer option to map it to a specific aspect.
Adding a side effect to a choice
To assign side effects to choices, click on the triple dot menu icon located at the right side of the option's input field, select "Add Effect" and enter the aspect you want to associate with the choice. If it is desired so, specify the point value that will be affected when the choice is selected, and then click the plus icon to add the effect to the choice.
After assigning side effects to each answer option, you should have a view similar to the one below.
When a choice that has been mapped to an effect is selected, the corresponding effect's point score is increased by the point value assigned to the option's side effect.
