What is a dropdown question?

A dropdown question allows test-takers to select a single answer from a list that appears only after clicking the dropdown arrow. This compact, clean layout is ideal for conserving space, especially when dealing with long lists of options.

To display the answer options in a dropdown list:

  • Create a multiple choice question.
    • Either enter the choices one-by-one or use the Quick Question Creation tool, accessible by clicking the magic wand icon next to the question type dropdown at the top left of the question creation panel.
Click the magic wand icon to enable quick question creation.

Optionally, adjust the width of the dropdown menu or add a label that will appear before the question.

By default, the dropdown width is set to auto, but you can choose from a list of fixed pixel values (e.g. 150px, 300px) for more control over how it appears on screen.

Click "Save" and your choice options will be presented as a dropdown list, as seen at the preview section.

Turn the preview switch on to check your dropdown question.

          Why use dropdown display?

Space-saving design: Great for mobile or compact layouts.
Cleaner interface: Reduces visual clutter when presenting many options.
Professional look: Dropdowns provide a modern, form-like user experience.
Discourages scanning: Test-takers must click to view choices, minimizing answer pattern recognition.
