Performance Levels
How to define a performance level scale that maps score ranges to descriptive labels like Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced.
The Levels tab lets you build a performance level scale — a set of named ranges that map score bands to descriptive labels such as Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced, or any custom terminology that suits your assessment context.
Building the Level Scale
Define the levels manually by specifying a name and score range for each level, or use the Level Generator to auto-create an evenly spaced set of levels. The generator lets you choose the number of levels and then divides the score range equally between them — you can rename the generated levels afterward.
Levels must be contiguous and cover the full score range without gaps or overlaps. The editor validates this automatically and flags any issues before you save.
Score Range Visualization
A visual range bar shows all configured levels and their boundaries side by side, so you can confirm the scale at a glance before it is applied to real results.
How Levels Appear in Reports
Once configured, the performance level for a test-taker is determined by which range their final score falls into. The level label appears in:
- The result report shown to the test-taker (when results are shared)
- The admin panel results table
- Any report template with the performance level block enabled
Levels work alongside pass/fail — a candidate can both fail and be at ‘Intermediate’ level, or pass while being at ‘Beginner’ level, depending on how you configure the thresholds.
