Sections & Pages

How sections and pages structure a test — section settings, page settings, and how to add, organize, and remove them.

Tests are organized into sections, and sections are divided into pages. Every question lives on a page. The hierarchy is: Test → Section → Page → Questions.

Sections

A section is a major structural division of a test. Most tests have a single section, but you can add more when the test has distinct logical parts — for example, a Verbal section followed by a Quantitative section.

Each section has its own settings that operate independently of the test-level defaults:

Section Settings

  • Starting Content — an optional introduction shown to the test-taker before the section begins. Use this for instructions, context, or warnings specific to that section.
  • Navigation Control — overrides the test-level navigation setting for this section only (Two-Way, One-Way, or No Navigation).
  • Shuffle Pages — randomizes the order of pages within the section for each test-taker.
  • Time Limit — a time limit that applies to this section independently. When it expires, the section ends and the test-taker moves to the next section.

Adding and Removing Sections

Use the Add Section control in the navigation panel to add a new section to the test. Sections must have a title. To delete a section, open its settings and click Delete Section — this option is only available when the test has more than one section.

Pages

A page is what a test-taker sees at once. Each page contains one or more questions. When a test-taker submits a page (clicks Next), they move to the next page in the section.

Pages are added inside sections. Use the Add menu at the bottom of a section in the navigation panel to add a new page.

Page Settings

  • Page Title — an optional label for the page, visible in the editor but not shown to test-takers unless the interface is configured to display it.
  • Layout — choose between a single-column layout (questions stacked vertically) or a double-column layout with a sidebar. The sidebar is useful for reading passages or reference material that should stay visible while the test-taker works through questions.
  • Shuffle Questions — randomizes the order of questions on this page for each test-taker.
  • Time Limit — a per-page time limit. When it expires, the page is automatically submitted and the test-taker is moved to the next page.

Removing Pages

Each page has a Delete Page button in the page editor. Deleting a page removes it and all the questions assigned to it from the test. The questions themselves remain in the Question Bank.

Deleting a page from a test removes only the reference to those questions — the questions stay in the Question Bank and can be added to other tests.
