Steps
Steps are the building blocks of a task — each wraps a test with its own delivery rules. This section maps every panel of the step editor, from contents and pre-start gates to anti-cheating and certification.
Steps are the building blocks of a task. Each step wraps one test together with its own delivery rules: what candidates read before and after, which checks they pass to start, when the step is open, how many attempts they get, what security applies while they work, and what happens when they finish. A task with one step is a simple exam; a task with several steps is a full assessment process.
The step editor's left navigation mirrors the sections below — each page in this chapter documents one editor section:
- Step Profile — title, Test vs Practice mode, and the step's weight in the overall task score.
- Step Contents — rich-text messaging shown around the exam itself.
- Pre-Start — the gates candidates pass before starting: documents, notice, device restrictions, system check, and prerequisites.
- Availability — the schedule window, check-in deadline, and attempt limit.
- Anti-Cheating — what is captured and enforced during the exam: webcam and screen recording, fullscreen lockdown, content protection, audit logs, AI detections.
- Reporting — what admins and candidates see as the step's result.
- Device Compatibility — which devices, connections, and networks the chosen settings admit.
- Certification — certificates granted on completion.
- Automated Emails — admin notifications and candidate messages triggered by step events.
Settings defined on a step apply to every candidate — but individual candidates can be given customized step settings from their ticket (different limits, relaxed security, extra attempts) without touching the step itself.
