Content Blocks

Reusable bundles that group questions with supporting content — reading passages, stimulus material, and related questions packaged together.

A Content Block is a reusable package that groups questions together with supporting content — for example, a reading passage followed by five comprehension questions, or a data table with several analysis questions. Instead of recreating these assemblies every time you build a test, you define them once as a Content Block and reuse them across multiple tests.

When to Use Content Blocks

Use Content Blocks when:

  • Multiple questions share a common stimulus (a text, image, chart, case study, or scenario)
  • You want to reuse a group of related questions across different tests without duplicating them
  • You need consistent question groupings for standardized assessments

Creating a Content Block

Navigate to Question Bank → Content Blocks tab and click New Content Block. Give it a title and description, then assign it to a folder category.

Adding Content and Questions

A Content Block is built from a sequence of items:

  • Rich text content — the stimulus material: a reading passage, chart description, scenario, or any supporting text
  • Question pointers — references to questions in your Question Bank that relate to the stimulus

Add and reorder items to build the exact structure you need. The Content Block stores references to questions rather than copies — if you update a question in the bank, the change is reflected in all Content Blocks that reference it.

Layout Options

Choose between single column and double column layouts for how the content and questions are arranged on screen.

Using Content Blocks in Tests

When building a test, you can add a Content Block to a page instead of individual questions. All questions in the block are added together, maintaining their relationship to the stimulus material. This is more efficient than adding questions one by one and ensures the stimulus always accompanies its questions.

Organizing Content Blocks

Content Blocks support the same folder organization as questions. Assign them to folders by category or topic, and use the search and filter controls to find them quickly when building tests.
