Tasks Steps

Availability

Control when the step can be taken: an optional start–end schedule window with explicit time zones, a check-in deadline for late arrivals, and a per-candidate attempt limit.

Availability controls when the step can be taken and how many times. Three independent controls combine: the schedule window, the check-in deadline, and the attempt limit.

Schedule Window

Disabled, the step is open whenever the task itself is accessible. Enabled, you set a start date and an end date — candidates can only take the step inside that window. Both dates carry an explicit time zone; the editor warns if the two dates use different zones, since that is almost always a mistake.

Check-In Restriction

The check-in restriction sets a deadline for starting: candidates must begin the step before the configured moment. Use it for scheduled sittings — the exam window may run 09:00–12:00, but with a 09:30 check-in deadline a latecomer at 10:00 cannot start, while everyone who checked in on time keeps their full working time.

Attempts

How many times a candidate may take the step: a number from 1 to 100, or unlimited. The default is a single attempt. Attempt limits are a plan-gated feature; individual candidates can be granted extra attempts through their customized step settings without changing the step.

Step availability nests inside task availability (Task Settings → Access & Entry): a candidate must clear both. Use the task window for the overall campaign and step windows to sequence parts within it — e.g. Part 1 open Monday, Part 2 open Wednesday.
