Question Author: Role & Responsibilities

Question Author is a deliberately narrow role — access to nothing but a personal submissions workspace — designed so outside contributors can propose questions without ever touching the live Question Bank.

Question Author exists for one purpose: let someone outside your regular question-bank team propose questions, without giving them any of the access that role would normally require. It's the role you hand to a subject-matter expert, a freelance writer, or a department lead who should contribute content but shouldn't be able to edit, delete, or even see your live bank.

What Access It Grants

  • The Submissions view — a dedicated screen with two tabs, Working and Submitted — and nothing else in the Question Bank area.
  • Full use of the question editor inside a submission: any question type, content, answer choices, and scoring can be authored exactly as a real question would be.
  • Only their own submissions — a Question Author cannot see what anyone else has submitted, approved, or rejected.

What It Does Not Grant

  • No access to the actual Question Bank — no browsing, no folders, no editing existing questions.
  • No visibility into other contributors' submissions, and no review powers of any kind.
  • No access to tests, tasks, or any other part of the organization — this role is scoped to submissions alone.

Duties

  • Draft complete, accurate questions — content, correct answers, and scoring — as if submitting the finished product, since the reviewer will not rewrite the content for you.
  • Submit when ready; a submission locks the moment it's sent, so review drafts locally (or keep them in Draft) until they're genuinely done.
  • Watch the Submitted tab for a Revise result, read the reviewer's feedback message, and address it directly before resubmitting — a Revise is a request for a specific fix, not a rejection.

Assigning the Role

Assign Question Author to a user from Organization → Users. It's the right choice whenever someone should contribute content but has no business inside your live bank — assign Question Bank Supervisor instead if they also need to review other people's submissions or manage the bank directly.
