Test Synchronization

Test Synchronization applies today's version of a test to sessions that are already completed — it refreshes their questions and/or scoring from the test or the question bank and recalculates their results. Nothing is deleted, but scores, pass/fail and certificates can change.

A completed session keeps a copy of each question exactly as the candidate saw it. That is what makes results stable — editing the test later doesn't silently change anyone's score. But sometimes you want the change to reach existing results: a wrong answer key was found after the exam, a question was worth too many points, or a broken question has to be voided. Test Synchronization brings the current test into those completed sessions and recalculates them.

Which sessions can be synced

Only completed sessions that have a result. Sessions in progress, not started or ended without a result are never touched. Each sync works on one step at a time, because each step uses its own test.

  • All completed sessions of a step — in the task's Data Operations tab, open Synchronization, choose the Step (the number of completed sessions it has is shown), set the options and click Sync all completed sessions.
  • Selected sessions — select up to 100 sessions in the Test Sessions table and choose Sync with test. The dialog shows how many of the selected sessions are completed and eligible; ineligible ones are left out. The eligible sessions must all belong to the same step.

The options

Source

  • Test model (default) — uses each question as it is in the test today, including any scoring the test sets for it (for example, points overridden on a question pulled from the bank).
  • Question bank — uses the question as it is in the question bank, with the bank question's own scoring, ignoring any override in the test. Questions written directly inside the test have no bank version and are skipped.

Scope

  • Scoring only (default) — updates how the question is scored: points, penalties and scoring rules. The question text and options stay as the candidate saw them.
  • Full question model — replaces the whole question with the current version: text, options, correct answers and scoring. Use this when the fix is in the question itself, such as a wrongly marked correct answer.

If a question is no longer in the test or its type changed

A question the candidate answered may have been deleted from the test since (alone, or with its page or section), or changed into a different type of question so that the recorded answer no longer fits it. For these questions:

  • Mark as ineffective (default) — the question stops counting toward the score, as if it had been voided.
  • Leave as scored — the question keeps the score it already had.

What is recalculated

  • Each updated question's automatic score is recalculated from the candidate's last answer. Manual grades and AI evaluations are kept as they were.
  • The session's result is then rebuilt — total score, sections, pass/fail and outcome.
  • Certificates are produced from the current result, so any certificate viewed, downloaded or verified after the sync reflects the new outcome. Copies downloaded earlier don't change.

A sync sends no emails and does not trigger webhooks or other integrations again. If results were already passed on to another system, update them there yourself. In the Operations list, each synced session shows how many questions were updated and whether its score changed.

Example: fixing an answer key after the exam

Question 7 of a 20-question test was marked with the wrong correct option, and 140 candidates have completed the step. You correct the option in the test, then run Sync all completed sessions for that step with Source: Test model and Scope: Full question model. Every candidate's answer to question 7 is re-scored against the corrected key, and their results are rebuilt — candidates who chose the right option gain the points, those who chose the previously “correct” one lose them. To void the question instead, delete it from the test and sync with Mark as ineffective.

Test Synchronization vs Recalculate Result

A sync cannot be undone automatically — to go back, revert the test and sync again. With Full question model, if an option a candidate selected no longer exists in the new version, that selection simply stops counting. Try the change on a few selected sessions first, check the scores, then sync the rest.
