How Deletions Affect Analytics

What happens to Test Analytics, Question Analytics, and Per-Question Analytics when a question, test, task, step, or session gets deleted.

Deleting something doesn't erase history — it changes what analytics counts going forward. The rule is simple once you see the pattern: a deletion excludes exactly the data that no longer represents something still in use, and nothing more.

Deleting a question

The question disappears from Question Analytics and Per-Question Analytics. It does not change the score of any test it was part of — a test's average, min/max, pass/fail, and score distribution in Test Analytics stay exactly as candidates experienced them, because those candidates really did answer that question and it really did count toward their result at the time.

Deleting a test

The test drops out of Test Analytics. Every question's contribution that came only from that test also drops out of Question Analytics and Per-Question Analytics — unless the same question was also asked elsewhere (a different test or task that's still active), in which case its stats simply shrink to reflect only the attempts that still count.

Deleting a task, or removing a step from a task

Same rule as deleting a test, scoped to that task or step: sessions run through a deleted task, or through a step that's been removed from a task (steps can be removed individually without deleting the whole task), stop counting in both Test Analytics and Question Analytics. A question or test that's also used elsewhere keeps showing the stats from those other, still-active places.

Deleting a test session (test instance)

The most direct case: that one candidate's session stops counting everywhere — it no longer contributes to the test's average/score distribution, nor to the asked/answered counts or choice distributions of any question it touched. This is the same treatment already given to sessions marked invalid (for example, ones flagged for a policy violation) — both are excluded from every analytics number without leaving a trace in the report.

The short version: deleting a question only ever affects question-level numbers. Deleting a test, task, step, or session can affect both question- and test-level numbers, but only for the specific test/task/step/session that was removed — everything else a question or test is also connected to keeps reporting normally.
