The Questions tab in test settings defines how questions are numbered, validated, protected, and evaluated. It also provides tools to shuffle sections and adjust how different sections contribute to the final score.
Where to find it:
Test Settings → Questions
Questions tab of test settings.
Settings Overview
Auto Numbering
Automatically assign numbers to questions for easy reference:
Auto-Number All Questions: Continuous numbering throughout the entire test.
Re-Start Auto-Numbering in Each Section: Start numbering at 1 for each section.
Mandatory Questions
Ensure that test-takers respond to required questions before continuing. You can set enforcement at three levels:
Page: Warn or block if required questions are unanswered.
Section: Apply similar logic at section level.
Test: Prevent test completion without answering all mandatory items.
Security
Restrict specific browser functions and insert tracking identifiers:
Block selection, print, right-click, translation, and spell check.
Embed unique barcodes or QR codes in questions to track participants via screenshots or recordings.
Evaluate by
Set the evaluation method for open-ended responses:
Percentage: Grade by percent correctness.
Nominal: Assign a fixed-point score.
Ineffective Questions
Handle ineffective questions by:
Disabling this feature (all questions remain counted), or
Excluding them from numbering and scoring.
Shuffle Sections
Randomize section order for each participant to increase test variation and minimize the chance of answer sharing.
Shuffling can also be applied at various levels within a test, be it sections, pages, questions or even answer choices. Learn how to set different shuffling options for various layers here.
Customize Section Weights
Assign different weights to sections for scoring. Heavier-weighted sections contribute more to the final test score.
Best Practices:
✅Use section-based auto-numbering in multi-topic tests to keep references organized.
✅Apply mandatory logic to ensure key questions aren't skipped—especially for compliance or qualification assessments.
✅Enable security settings when test integrity is critical (e.g., certification or admissions).
✅Use percentage evaluation for more precise scoring of subjective input.
✅Customize section weights to prioritize core skill areas (e.g., Grammar weighted more than Vocabulary).
