How Dream Games built a custom general aptitude assessment for candidate screening

The Challenge

Dream Games needed a custom general aptitude assessment for evaluating candidates during its recruitment process. Rather than relying on a generic, off-the-shelf test, the People team wanted assessment content that reflected the reasoning and language skills relevant to its candidate population.

The assessment needed to cover several areas:

• Abstract reasoning
• Table and data interpretation
• Verbal reasoning
• Numerical reasoning and mathematics
• Turkish language skills

Dream Games also wanted each question to function independently. Questions based on the same chart or table could create dependencies between items and affect the candidate experience. The company therefore preferred standalone questions with a clear and consistent scoring structure.

In addition to the questions themselves, the team required detailed solutions, a complete answer key, transparent scoring documentation, and a structured revision process.

The Solution

TestInvite developed a custom 40-question general aptitude assessment based on Dream Games' requirements.

The assessment was created by a multidisciplinary team that included two psychologists and other subject-matter experts. The psychologists contributed to the assessment structure, competency alignment, question clarity, and evaluation logic. Subject-matter experts supported the development and review of content within the relevant reasoning, mathematics, data interpretation, and language domains.

This collaborative approach helped ensure that the assessment content was understandable, relevant to the intended measurement areas, and suitable for use within a structured recruitment process.

The question set was designed to evaluate a combination of cognitive and language abilities rather than focusing on a single skill area. Each question was reviewed in relation to:

• The ability or knowledge area it was intended to measure.
• Clarity and comprehensibility
• Difficulty level
• Answer options and distractor quality
• Correct-answer logic
• Scoring consistency
• Independence from other questions

Reviewing, refining, and delivering the assessment

The final delivery included:

TestInvite and Dream Games followed a collaborative review process throughout development. Dream Games examined the initial question set and shared comments and requested changes. The TestInvite team then reviewed and revised the relevant items.

To make the review process more transparent, the revised materials included both the initial and updated versions of selected questions. This allowed the Dream Games team to compare the changes directly.
